SampleTank, and iGrand Piano iOS apps plus many others, such as Apple GarageBand. First of all, don't get rid of the box your iRig BlueBoard comes in or you won't be able to get it to work with Amplitube, the guitar effects app for iPad and iPhone. I couldn't figure out how to make this work with GarageBand, either. Mar 26, 2016 Question: Q: Garageband IOS & iRig 2 - no sound. I had purchased Garageband ios for my iPad Air 2 along with an iRig 2, allowing me to connect a guitar. It initially work but I have not used it for several months. Only thing that has changed is I did an IOS update(9.2)? Something has changed where it Garageband no longer seems to function with.

Yes, it does. I was able to use the iRig Blueboard to control some of the parameters and change between presets. I did have to use the IK Blueboard app though. - I assumed it did, but upon checking there are no BT MIDI settings available within the app or general settings. Most other apps that support BT Midi have settings for enabling it I think, so unsure at this moment in time if TS does actually support it.

Can anybody check with something like gadget or midiflow if it shows up there?
- I thought I would share my firmware upgrade experience in case it might help anybody.I attempted to upgrade my firmware using the Windows program. It failed during the process, rendering my Blueboard unusable. It was stuck in the mode of flashing the 'D' button with no Bluetooth connection. What seemed to work was running the updater in Administrator mode. The Blueboard then mounted as an external drive, allowing me to delete the corrupt driver file. I think ran the updater again. The process showed an error warning saying I needed to unplug and replug in the USB chord to the Blueboard. I think what ultimately worked was ignoring this request, which allowed the update to complete successfully. At that point, however, I could not connect to the Blueboard app or any other app.Apparently, connecting to the Blueboard app will require an update under review by AppleHowever, even after the firmware update Garageband, for example, could not see the Blueboard. To fix this, I needed to turn off the Blueboard and turn on holding the 'B' key. That seemed to fix the third-party app issue, so now I just need to wait for the Blueboard app to update. Here are instructions form IK tech support, which was ultimately helpful in fixing this problem.
- Turn OFF your iRig BlueBoard
- Turn this back ON while holing the B or C pads
- Open GarageBand
- Inside here go to the SONG SETTINGS menu (Upper right hand corner. Indicated by a WRENCH symbol.)
- Go to the Bluetooth MIDI device section
- Tap the name of the device you wish to connect
- To stop using this device, tap the Connect switch to OFF
- Blueboard app update arrived. Is it working for everybody now?
- Yes, everything is back to normal, here.
I've used It successfully after the update
and the blueboard app works fine now.By the way, which apps support midi over Bluetooth ?
I'd love to test that new function promised by the firmware. - I'd try midiflow first. If it works with that you can route it anywhere you want from there.
- edited March 2016aaah, WTF IK! sorry but this sucks again:

I got mine updated successfully thanks to these institutions. It works as it should here. Using the windows machine was pretty frustrating, though. For the second time it automatically installed a shitload of windows updates only to find they weren't appropriate and then uninstalling all the updates with several restarts... Updates are deactivated now. - The updater is back for download: http://download.ikmultimedia.com/data/firmware/iRig_BlueBoard_Firmware_Updater_1.0.1.zip?513c3ad78c9fbadfb0830893ecdf10e9053fe011cead851654d33e31937ac6247414daf61973d521bb64b2

It was completely bricked, but now it lives and works. You my friend help me keep what little sanity I have left.IK should hire you...
- With the v3.0 update Tonestack now supports Bluetooth MIDI, so you can now use blueboard without needing the companion app, as long as your blueboard is on the latest firmware. In order to do this you need to hold down the C button when powering on your blueboard, this puts it into BT MIDI CC mode.To go back to the normal proprietary mode hold down A while powering on.
- It works, but I can't figure out how to get the lights working this way. And strangely, I can't get it working with the blueboard app for anything other than changing presets.@AndyPlankton said:

IOS 11 I can't more pair my Blueboard in Bluetooth LE mode. It connects but disconnects then. Just can't use in normal mode with the IK application . Somente more experiencing this problem?

iOS MIDI controller? Check! Wireless MIDI Controller? Check. Hands-free? Check! Looks like IK Multimedia have another hit on their hands aimed at iOS musicians with the iRig BlueBoard.
“iRig” is the prefix given to many of IK Multimedia’s iOS-compatible products, and it certainly makes arguably the widest range of interfaces, controllers and mics on the market for Apple’s portables. The only thing with most of these is that like any accessory, they occupy your device’s Dock or Lightning conector. And you’ve only got one of those, which you may well want to use for streaming audio in and out.
The answer IK has come up with is the BlueBoard, a Bluetooth wireless MIDI pedal board that works with any iOS device or Mac that supports Bluetooth 4.0. The latest Bluetooth standard uses extremely low power, making it suitable for long periods of connection without burning lots of battery. In practice this means an iPhone 4S or later, iPod Touch 5G, iPad 3 or later and iPad Mini. The same applies to Macs : if yours has Bluetooth 4.0, you’ll be fine. You can add 4.0 to any computer using a USB dongle for around £12, regardless of the age of your computer.
Compact and lightweight, BlueBoard slips into your bag along with your iPad or laptop.
Portable power
The box itself is small and lightweight but sturdy, with rubberised feet to hold it in place. It takes 4xAAA batteries and has an on-off switch on the base. It can also be powered over micro USB, for example if affixed to a larger guitar pedal board. There are four buttons, large and chunky enough to be pressed by foot, and backlit for use in the dark – incidentally, with variable brightness controlled in software. On the side are two variable pedal inputs, a nice touch that expands the usefulness of the device. You could for example connect expression or volume pedals and map their behaviour using the app.
There are two control pedal inputs to expand the functionality of the device.
Irig Blueboard Alternative
Speaking of the app, the free BlueBoard app for iOS or Mac works by intercepting the signal from the hardware over Bluetooth and converting it to MIDI. There’s a pairing process, though no security code to enter. The app has several functions, the first of which is working in either program change or control change mode. The former switches presets whereas the latter can be made to change things like synth settings using CC numbers. You can also use the app to calibrate any connected pedals.
Take it to the bank
BlueBoard has a number of banks and these are how you navigate. By default the four physical buttons select patches 1-4. Hold the A button for three seconds to flip up a bank, and they trigger patches 5-8, and so on. Hold the B button to go down a bank. In Control mode, flipping banks makes buttons control different MIDI CCs. Of course in control mode you have to know what CCs correspond to what parameters in your software, which can take a little researching.
BlueBoard works very well with IK’s apps like Amplitube, Vocalive and Sampletank on the iPad. I also set it up successfully with Nanostudio, though GarageBand for iPad accepts only a couple of CCs for external control. On the Mac the app works in much the same way, though here it’s generally easier to use MIDI learn and identify MIDI CCs than it is on iOS.
Install the free companion app on your Mac or iOS device to get up and running.
Feeling blue?
BlueBoard is a clever and affordable way to get wireless MIDI control of music apps running on your iOS device or Mac. For live performers it’s a much better approach than constantly tapping at your iPad during a performance and it works from around 30ft away, though obviously nearer is better. Changing patches is its most obvious use, though the controller stuff is handy too. Connect a pedal or two to really unlock its full potential.
